What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Remax Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee who transfers their franchise must pay Remax a transfer fee. This fee is $2,500, in addition to any other costs Remax incurs during the transfer. These additional costs may include administrative and legal expenses. The FDD notes that REMAX Regional's costs could be significantly higher than the transfer fee depending upon the nature and complexity of the transaction.

In addition to the transfer fee, the franchisee must also meet other conditions before the transfer can be approved. These conditions include being in compliance with the franchise agreement, paying any outstanding amounts owed to Remax, and submitting all proposed transfer documents for review and approval at least 30 days prior to the proposed transfer date. The prospective transferee must also meet Remax's standards for new franchisees.

It is important to note that the new franchisee will be required to sign a new franchise agreement with Remax. This new agreement may have different terms than the original agreement, including higher Monthly Ongoing Fees, Marketing Fund fees, Hot Air Balloon Fund fees (if applicable), Regional Development fees (if applicable), and Minimum Agent Counts. The new franchise agreement will be for a term coinciding with the remainder of the original term, or a term consistent with the terms of franchise agreements granted at the time of transfer, at REMAX Regional's discretion.
