What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Remax's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the estimated cost to acquire a computer system that complies with their requirements ranges from $800 to $2,500. This initial investment covers the necessary hardware and software to meet Remax's specifications. However, this is just the beginning, as franchisees are also responsible for ongoing costs associated with maintaining and upgrading their computer systems.

Throughout the franchise term, Remax may modify the specifications for the computer system's components, including hardware and software. Franchisees are obligated to implement these upgrades and updates, incurring further costs for purchasing or leasing updated hardware and software. The FDD highlights that there are no contractual limitations on the frequency and cost of these required updates, meaning Remax can mandate changes at any time, potentially leading to unforeseen expenses for the franchisee.

In addition to the initial purchase and ongoing upgrades, franchisees must also factor in the cost of maintaining their computer systems. While Remax does not provide maintenance services, franchisees must either have in-house expertise or contract with a reputable third-party organization. The cost of these maintenance services can vary significantly, potentially ranging from $75 to $500 per month ($900 to $6,000 per year) for one computer system, depending on factors such as the age and number of computers, usage patterns, security practices, and local service costs. This ongoing maintenance expense represents a significant operational cost that franchisees need to consider when evaluating the overall investment required to operate a Remax franchise.
