What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must purchase, install, and use furniture, fixtures, leasehold improvements, equipment, supplies, uniforms, and signs as required and approved by Gold Star. Franchisees need prior written approval for any alterations or replacements of these items. These requirements ensure that all items meet Gold Star's System Standards.

The FDD specifies that the suppliers of these items, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment, must satisfy the conditions for approval as outlined in Section 7 of the franchise agreement. This means that any supplier a franchisee wishes to use must meet Gold Star's criteria for approval.

In practice, this means a Gold Star franchisee cannot simply choose any vendor for these essential items. They must select from Gold Star's approved list or seek approval for a new supplier, which may involve inspections, testing, and evaluations, the costs of which are borne by the franchisee. Gold Star reserves the right to revoke approval of any supplier or item that no longer meets its standards. This ensures consistency and quality across all Gold Star locations but may limit a franchisee's options and potentially increase costs.
