What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Gold Star Franchise Disclosure Document, Gold Star provides franchisees with knowledge and advice related to equipment, vendor selection, and operational standards. Gold Star offers a schedule of necessary equipment to operate the store and a list of approved vendors for various services and supplies, including architectural services, equipment, furniture, advertising materials, and computer software. This guidance helps franchisees streamline the setup process and ensure they are using approved resources that meet Gold Star's standards.
Gold Star also sets forth standards of operation that franchisees must adhere to. These standards cover every detail of the Gold Star system, including ingredients, food preparation methods, menu item specifications, and service protocols. Franchisees must maintain uniform operating standards to uphold the quality, service, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction expected of Gold Star Chili franchises. These standards are periodically updated and communicated to the franchisee in writing, and compliance is a fundamental requirement of the franchise agreement.
Prior to construction, Gold Star requires franchisees to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including ADA requirements. Franchisees are responsible for obtaining necessary zoning classifications and clearances. Final construction plans must be submitted to Gold Star for approval to ensure compliance with the company's design standards, trade dress, and presentation of its marks. However, Gold Star's review does not assess compliance with laws and regulations, which remains the franchisee's responsibility. This division of responsibilities highlights the importance of franchisees securing their own expert advice on legal and regulatory matters.
Gold Star requires franchisees to designate a manager for the store and notify the company of the manager's identity. Any changes in management require prior written notice to Gold Star, and replacement managers must undergo required training. This ensures that store management is qualified and aligned with Gold Star's operational standards. Gold Star also emphasizes that franchisees have the opportunity to seek independent legal and financial advice before signing the franchise agreement, acknowledging that the franchisee's success depends on their own business abilities and efforts.
