What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees may be required to cover the costs of inspecting and testing alternative suppliers. Specifically, if a franchisee wants to purchase from a supplier not already approved by Gold Star, they must submit a written request for approval.
Gold Star has the right to inspect the potential supplier's facilities and request samples for testing and evaluation. The franchisee is responsible for paying Gold Star a charge that does not exceed the reasonable cost of the inspection and the actual cost of testing or other evaluation. Gold Star will then notify the franchisee in writing within a reasonable time, not to exceed 60 days, after receiving the request and samples, whether the approval is granted.
Gold Star also reserves the right to reinspect facilities and items from time to time and may revoke approval of any source or item that no longer meets the company's criteria. Gold Star is not required to approve any particular supplier or item. This means that even if a franchisee pays for the inspection and testing, there is no guarantee that the alternative supplier will be approved. This policy ensures that Gold Star maintains control over the quality and standards of its products and suppliers, but it also places the financial burden of seeking alternative suppliers on the franchisee.
