What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if a franchisee wants to purchase from a supplier not already approved by Gold Star, they must submit a written request for approval. Gold Star has the right to inspect the potential supplier's facilities and request samples for testing and evaluation.
The franchisee is responsible for covering the costs associated with this process. Specifically, Gold Star may charge the franchisee an amount not exceeding the reasonable cost of the inspection and the actual cost of testing or other evaluation. This means the franchisee will need to budget for these potential costs if they wish to use alternative suppliers.
Gold Star will then notify the franchisee in writing of their decision within 60 days of receiving the request and samples. Gold Star also retains the right to reinspect facilities and items periodically and may revoke approval if a supplier or item no longer meets their criteria. It is important to note that Gold Star is not obligated to approve any particular supplier or item, giving them significant control over the supply chain.
