What level of effort must the Gold Star Manager devote to the Restaurant?

Gold_Star Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

The Manager must devote his or her full time and best efforts to the diligent and conscientious day-to-day, on-premises supervision and operation of the Restaurant. If you have more than one Restaurant, you must have a different Manager for each Restaurant and that Manager must devote his or her full time and best efforts to the diligent and conscientious day-today, on-premises supervision and operation of that one Restaurant (you may appoint an area Manager to oversee the Restaurant Managers but each Restaurant must also have its own Manager).

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Manager of a Gold Star restaurant must devote significant time and effort to the business. The FDD states that the Manager must dedicate their full time and best efforts to the diligent and conscientious day-to-day, on-premises supervision, and operation of the Restaurant. If a franchisee owns more than one Gold Star restaurant, they must employ a different Manager for each location, with each Manager similarly dedicating their full time and best efforts to their respective restaurant.

This requirement ensures that each Gold Star restaurant receives focused and dedicated management. While an area manager can be appointed to oversee multiple Restaurant Managers, each individual restaurant must still have its own dedicated Manager. This structure is designed to maintain quality control and operational efficiency at each location.

For a prospective Gold Star franchisee, this means understanding the importance of hiring a capable and dedicated Manager. The Manager's role is not a part-time or absentee position; it requires a full-time commitment to the restaurant's success. Franchisees with multiple locations will need to ensure they have a qualified Manager for each location, adding to the overall operational costs and management responsibilities.

The FDD also stipulates that the Manager cannot be changed without prior written notice to Gold Star and the replacement Manager completing the initial training program. This requirement ensures that all Managers are properly trained and meet Gold Star's standards, maintaining consistency across all franchise locations.
