5.1 System Standards. Accordingly, FRANCHISEE will conduct and operate the Business at all times in a manner that will preserve and build the goodwill of all Restaurants and of the COMPANY, will comply with each and every System Standard, as periodically modified and supplemented by the COMPANY in its sole and absolute discretion, and will not deviate from the System Standards during the term of this Agreement. System Standards prescribed from time to time in the Manual or otherwise communicated to FRANCHISEE in writing will constitute provisions of this Agreement as if fully set forth in this Agreement. All references to this Agreement include all System Standards as periodically modified.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must adhere to the standards the company sets regarding the weight, quality, and dimensions of menu items. These standards are part of the broader 'System Standards' that Gold Star Chili franchisees must follow to maintain uniformity and quality across all locations.
This means a franchisee is obligated to ensure that all food preparation and service aligns with the specifications provided by Gold Star. These System Standards are periodically modified and supplemented by Gold Star in its sole and absolute discretion. The standards are communicated in writing to the franchisee, and are considered provisions of the Franchise Agreement.
For a prospective franchisee, this underscores the importance of carefully reviewing the System Standards detailed in the manual and any written communications from Gold Star. Franchisees must commit to upholding these standards to preserve the brand's reputation and ensure customer satisfaction. Failure to comply with these standards could lead to a breach of the franchise agreement.
