What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must adhere to the standards and specifications outlined in the franchise agreement. The agreement emphasizes the importance of maintaining uniform operating standards to protect the brand's reputation and goodwill. Franchisees are expected to comply with all System Standards, which include specifications for ingredients, food preparation, service methods, and the quality and dimensions of menu items. These standards may be modified and supplemented by Gold Star at its discretion, and any changes communicated in writing become part of the franchise agreement.

This requirement means that a Gold Star franchisee's daily operations must align with the standards set by the company. This includes everything from the types of ingredients used to how food is prepared and served. Franchisees do not have the freedom to deviate from these standards, ensuring consistency across all Gold Star locations. This standardization is intended to maintain a high level of quality and customer satisfaction, which in turn protects the brand's reputation.

The franchise agreement specifies that System Standards communicated in the manual or in writing are considered provisions of the agreement. This means that any deviation from these standards could be considered a breach of contract. Franchisees must stay informed about any changes to the System Standards and implement them promptly. This adherence is crucial for maintaining a consistent brand image and operational quality across all Gold Star Chili restaurants.

Gold Star also requires franchisees to maintain the interior and exterior of the store in a clean and attractive condition, satisfactory to the company's standards. Franchisees are also expected to refurbish the store at their own expense when requested by Gold Star to conform to the current trade dress and presentation of the brand. These requirements ensure that each location reflects the Gold Star brand and meets customer expectations for appearance and quality.
