What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must operate their restaurants in strict accordance with the methods, standards, and specifications prescribed by Gold Star in its manual or in writing. This encompasses several key restrictions. Franchisees are prohibited from offering for sale any products or services for which Gold Star has not provided written approval. They must sell all products and services that Gold Star requires. Deviation from Gold Star's standards and specifications, including those related to product preparation, is not allowed. Furthermore, franchisees cannot sell or offer for sale any products and services that Gold Star has subsequently disapproved.
These stipulations ensure uniformity and consistency across all Gold Star locations, maintaining the brand's quality and reputation. Gold Star may specify particular brands or models, product characteristics, or specific sources for goods and services. These specifications are subject to change at Gold Star's discretion during the franchise term. Franchisees are advised of modifications and revocations in writing and may not reorder any item, or order from any supplier, that is no longer approved after receiving notice of the change.
Prospective franchisees should understand that these restrictions are a fundamental aspect of the Gold Star franchise system. While they ensure consistency and quality, they also limit the franchisee's autonomy in making independent business decisions regarding product offerings and sourcing. Franchisees need to be prepared to adhere strictly to Gold Star's guidelines and specifications, as outlined in the manual and other written communications, to maintain compliance and avoid potential penalties or termination of the franchise agreement.
