What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must operate their restaurants in strict accordance with the methods, procedures, standards, and specifications detailed in the manual or otherwise provided in writing by Gold Star. Franchisees are specifically prohibited from deviating from these guidelines, which include aspects such as ingredients, preparation methods, service protocols, and the weight, quality, and dimensions of the products served. This ensures uniformity across all Gold Star locations.

This means a franchisee cannot alter recipes, change service styles, or adjust product sizes without explicit approval from Gold Star. Franchisees must sell or offer for sale only those items, products, and services expressly approved by Gold Star and must sell or offer for sale all menu items, products, and services required by Gold Star. They must also discontinue selling any items that Gold Star disapproves of. This level of control allows Gold Star to maintain brand consistency and quality control across all franchise locations.

Gold Star retains the right to modify these standards and specifications due to changing market conditions, competition, new laws and regulations, new products, technological advancements, and demographic shifts. Franchisees are obligated to comply with these modifications if Gold Star believes them necessary or desirable. These changes may include adopting new trade names, trademarks, services, products, management practices, and signage. This flexibility ensures that the Gold Star system remains current and competitive, although it also means franchisees must be prepared to adapt to changes implemented by the franchisor.
