What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must adhere to all Privacy Laws and System Standards related to these laws. Specifically, franchisees are prohibited from any action or failure to act that could lead Gold Star to violate any Privacy Laws concerning the Communication and Information System or other areas. Privacy Laws are defined as any international, national, federal, provincial, state, or local law, code, rule, or regulation governing the processing of Personal Information, including data protection, marketing, communications, electronic communications, information security regulations, and security breach notification laws. Personal Information includes any data that can identify, locate, or contact an individual.
This means a Gold Star franchisee must be extremely careful in how they handle customer data, employee information, and any other data that could be considered personal. They need to ensure their systems and processes are compliant with all applicable privacy regulations. This includes implementing appropriate security measures to protect data, providing clear privacy notices to customers, and obtaining necessary consents for data collection and use.
Failure to comply with these privacy obligations could result in legal consequences for both the franchisee and Gold Star. It could also damage the reputation of the Gold Star brand and erode customer trust. Therefore, it is crucial for prospective franchisees to fully understand their obligations under Privacy Laws and to implement robust compliance measures.
