What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Gold Star Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must comply with all applicable Privacy Laws. The FDD defines "Privacy Laws" as any international, national, federal, provincial, state, or local law, code, rule, or regulation that regulates the processing of Personal Information in any way. This broad definition includes data protection laws, laws regulating marketing or communications, electronic communications laws, information security regulations, and security breach notification laws.

For a prospective Gold Star franchisee, this means they must be aware of and adhere to a wide range of legal requirements related to handling personal information. This includes understanding how to collect, use, store, and protect customer data, as well as how to respond to data breaches or security incidents. Franchisees must also comply with System Standards that apply to Privacy Laws and avoid any actions that could cause Gold Star to breach these laws.

This obligation extends to the Communication and Information System used within the franchise. Franchisees must ensure their operations do not violate any privacy laws related to this system. Given the increasing importance of data privacy and the potential for significant penalties for non-compliance, Gold Star franchisees should prioritize understanding and implementing appropriate privacy measures within their business operations.
