What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Gold Star Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial crew training program is conducted at the franchisee's restaurant before it opens to the public. This training typically occurs during the week leading up to the restaurant's scheduled opening. The FDD specifies that Gold Star requires the initial crew to participate in a 5 to 7 day training program, with each day consisting of 5 hours of training.
Gold Star does not charge franchisees for the initial crew training program. However, the franchisee is responsible for all expenses incurred by themselves and their crew during the training, including travel, lodging, and meals. The initial crew must complete the training program to Gold Star's satisfaction before the restaurant can open.
In addition to the initial crew training, Gold Star also provides initial training programs for new restaurant franchisees and their key managers. This training is typically held at a designated restaurant site or at outsourced training company locations. The classroom training for franchisees and key managers is generally conducted at Gold Star's corporate offices, while on-the-job training is conducted at Gold Star's corporate offices or company-owned restaurants. New store training will take place on-site when a location opens. Occasionally, training may take place at a franchise location that is convenient for neighboring franchise locations.
