What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Gold Star FDD, franchisees must adhere to the System Standards and cannot deviate from them during the term of the franchise agreement. Gold Star emphasizes the importance of every detail of the System to maintain uniform operating standards, increase demand for products and services, establish a reputation for quality, and protect the goodwill of all Gold Star franchises. These System Standards include specifications, standards, operating procedures, and rules prescribed by Gold Star for the development and operation of the store. These standards cover ingredients, food preparation methods, service protocols, and the weight, quality, and dimensions of menu items.
Compliance with System Standards is a fundamental requirement of the franchise agreement. Franchisees are expected to operate their businesses in a manner that preserves and builds the goodwill of all Gold Star restaurants and the company itself. Gold Star has the discretion to modify and supplement these System Standards periodically. Franchisees are responsible for staying informed of these changes, as any System Standards communicated in writing, such as in the Manual, become provisions of the franchise agreement.
This requirement ensures consistency across all Gold Star locations, which is intended to provide customers with a predictable experience and maintain brand integrity. For a prospective franchisee, this means a commitment to following Gold Star's established methods and procedures without significant deviation. While this may limit a franchisee's autonomy, it also provides a framework for operation and support from the franchisor.
