What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Gold Star's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, while franchisees can select their own architect, that architect must be reasonably acceptable to Gold Star. Gold Star will provide the franchisee's architect with standard prototype plans and specifications for the restaurant design, including exterior and interior layouts, fixtures, furnishings, equipment, and signs, at no charge to the franchisee.

Furthermore, before starting any construction, franchisees must submit final construction plans to Gold Star for approval. This review is to ensure the plans comply with Gold Star's design standards, including trade dress and presentation of the Marks. However, Gold Star's review does not assess compliance with laws like the ADA, which remains the franchisee's responsibility.

Once Gold Star approves the final plans, the franchisee cannot change or modify them without Gold Star's prior written permission. This process ensures that each Gold Star restaurant maintains a consistent brand image and operational standard, while also placing the onus of legal compliance on the franchisee.
