What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Dollar Rent A Car FDD, either the franchisee or their full-time manager must participate in and complete the initial training program to the franchisor's satisfaction. This training is required for all franchised businesses and must be completed before the franchise opens. The training may take place at the franchisee's location or another site designated by Dollar Rent A Car.

There is no separate charge for the initial training program itself. However, the franchisee is responsible for covering the travel, living expenses, and wages incurred by themselves or their employees during the training period. This could represent a significant upfront cost for new franchisees, as it includes not only the direct expenses of travel and accommodation but also the opportunity cost of lost wages.

Failure to complete the initial training program to Dollar Rent A Car's satisfaction can result in a breach of the franchise agreement. Unless the franchisee obtains written permission to postpone the training, this breach can lead to the termination of the agreement. This underscores the importance of prioritizing and fully committing to the initial training program.

Dollar Rent A Car also provides remedial training programs and courses that franchisees may be required to attend at their own expense if the franchisor deems it necessary to improve the operation of the franchised business. Franchisees are also responsible for implementing a training program for all of their employees to ensure compliance with the franchisor's standards and procedures.
