What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Dollar Rent A Car Franchise Disclosure Document, in certain states, any statement, questionnaire, or acknowledgement signed by the franchisee related to the start of the franchise relationship cannot waive claims under state franchise law, including fraud, or disclaim reliance on statements made by Dollar Rent A Car or its representatives.
This provision in the franchise agreement specifically overrides any other conflicting terms in any document signed in connection with the franchise within the states of Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin.
For a prospective Dollar Rent A Car franchisee, this means that the franchisee retains their rights under applicable state franchise laws in the aforementioned states, regardless of any agreements to the contrary. This offers a level of protection against potentially overreaching clauses that might otherwise limit their legal recourse. It is important for franchisees to understand their rights and the specific protections afforded to them by state franchise laws, especially in states with such provisions.
