What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Dollar Rent A Car Franchise Disclosure Document, Hertz, Dollar Rent A Car, and Thrifty have the right to unilaterally modify the Operations Guides. This means that Dollar Rent A Car can change the operating procedures and requirements outlined in these guides at any time without needing the franchisee's consent.

This right to unilateral modification is in place to allow Dollar Rent A Car to adapt to changing operating procedures, maintain the goodwill associated with their marks, meet customer satisfaction demands, and respond to competition. These changes can impact how a Dollar Rent A Car franchisee operates their business.

For a prospective Dollar Rent A Car franchisee, this means that the rules and guidelines under which they operate can change at any time. While these changes are intended to benefit the system as a whole, they could also require the franchisee to invest in new equipment, training, or procedures, potentially impacting their profitability. It is important for a franchisee to stay informed of any changes to the Operations Guides and to understand how these changes may affect their business.

Furthermore, Hertz, Thrifty, and Dollar can limit a franchisee's access to proprietary and confidential information of other Hertz, Dollar, or Thrifty franchisees, including attendance at franchisee meetings. This could limit a franchisee's ability to network and learn from other franchisees within the system.
