By what date must a Dollar Rent A Car franchisee open their franchised business to the public?

According to the 2025 Dollar Rent A Car Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee must open their franchised business to the public no later than the date(s) provided in Attachment A to the Franchise Agreement. This attachment is a critical component of the agreement as it outlines the specific locations and the deadlines by which these locations must be operational.

Failure to meet the opening schedule outlined in Attachment A can have significant consequences for the Dollar Rent A Car franchisee. According to the FDD, not meeting the schedule constitutes grounds for termination of the Franchise Agreement, as detailed in Section 19.4(c). However, Dollar Rent A Car has the option to reduce, modify, revise, or reclaim the territory, excluding a three-mile radius around any location already operated by the franchisee.

Furthermore, Dollar Rent A Car retains the discretion to require the franchisee to open additional locations within the territory to meet customer demand. If Dollar Rent A Car determines that an additional location is necessary, they will provide written notice to the franchisee, specifying the area where the new location must be established. The franchisee must then provide written notice of their intent to open the location within 60 days of Dollar Rent A Car's notice and commence operations within 180 days from the date of the notice. Failure to comply with these timelines may result in the reversion of the specified territory to Dollar Rent A Car, allowing them to grant a franchise to others or operate a business themselves in that area.
