What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Dollar Rent A Car Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must purchase and utilize a counter automation system, which is a software system that maintains car availability, customer databases, and rental information. The FDD names the only software systems approved for use as part of the franchisee's Approved Counter System.
The approved counter automation software systems are Cars Thermeon Corporate Services located in Santa Ana, California; Bluebird Auto Rental Systems located in Dover, New Jersey; The System Distributors, Inc. located in North Andover, Massachusetts; Fourth Tier Solutions located in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom; Karz Systems, Inc. located in Evans, CA; and Capture (Overland West, Inc.) located in Ogden, Utah.
Dollar Rent A Car retains the right to change the approved counter automation software systems, requiring franchisees to purchase new software licenses at their own expense if changes occur. The estimated cost for the Approved Counter System, including both hardware and software, ranges from $11,500 to $250,000, depending on the number of systems installed. Franchisees must also purchase software support from the approved suppliers if they offer it. The number of computer workstations needed depends on the fleet size, with estimates of 2, 3, and 4 workstations for fleets of up to 100, 200, and 300 rental cars, respectively.
