Is a Deck Medic franchisee permitted to operate the business from a home-based administrative office?
Deck_Medic Franchise · 2024 FDDAnswer from 2024 FDD Document
If permitted by law, you may administratively operate your Deck Medic Business from a home based administrative office. As your Deck Medic Business grows, we expect that you will need to lease a non-retail commercial facility to support and maintain back-end operations that include parking service vehicles, maintaining supplies, managing employees, and staging service visits. You may only offer and provide the Approved Services and Products on-site at customer locations within your designated operating territory.

What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Deck Medic's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are permitted to operate the business from a home-based administrative office, if permitted by law. However, as the Deck Medic business expands, the franchisor anticipates that franchisees will need to lease a non-retail commercial facility. This commercial space would be necessary to support back-end operations, including parking service vehicles, maintaining supplies, managing employees, and staging service visits.
This requirement reflects the operational nature of the Deck Medic franchise, which involves on-site services at customer locations. While a home-based office may be suitable for initial administrative tasks, the need for vehicle parking, supply storage, and employee management necessitates a commercial facility as the business grows. This transition from a home office to a commercial facility is a common progression for service-based franchises as they scale their operations.
Prospective Deck Medic franchisees should consider the potential costs associated with leasing and maintaining a commercial facility as part of their long-term business plan. It's important to factor in these expenses, along with initial franchise fees and ongoing operational costs, to accurately assess the financial viability of the franchise. Additionally, franchisees should research local laws and regulations regarding home-based businesses and commercial zoning to ensure compliance as they grow their Deck Medic business.
