According to the 2024 Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon Franchise Disclosure Document, Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon does not own any patents or have any pending patent applications. However, Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon does claim common law copyrights on advertising copy and design, training, operation, and procedure manuals, and other items related to the operation of Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon stores.

While Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon has not registered these copyrights with the United States Copyright Office, they do not need to do so to protect them. Franchisees are allowed to use copyrighted items only as Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon specifies while operating their store and must stop using them at Cost Cutters Family Hair Salon's direction.
