What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Coffee News's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, restaurants and other local establishments do not pay a fee to distribute the publication. Instead, they offer Coffee News as a service to their customers. The Coffee News franchisee generates revenue by selling advertising space in the weekly editions of the periodical.
This arrangement is beneficial for both the Coffee News franchisee and the local establishments. The franchisee gains access to a distribution network without incurring costs, while the restaurants and other establishments provide added value to their clientele. This can help attract and retain customers, as the publication offers engaging content.
However, the FDD also notes that restaurants are generally not allowed to advertise in the print version of Coffee News, except in seasonal editions during the high season, or in the online versions. This restriction could impact a franchisee's ability to generate revenue from local restaurants, as they cannot rely on them as consistent advertisers in the print version. Franchisees should consider this limitation when developing their advertising sales strategy and focus on other local businesses for advertising revenue. The online version of Coffee News provides an opportunity to generate additional advertising revenue from restaurants at a modest cost.
