What census data is used to determine the exclusive territory of each Coffee News franchise?

Coffee_News Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

The exclusive territory of each franchise is based on the 2010 census data (wwww.census.gov) for resident population within the selected area. Generally, each franchise territory should have a population of 25,000 - 50,000 and we are flexible on how many franchise territories may be available in any geographic area. You do not have the right of first refusal or similar rights to acquire additional outlets. The operations manual provides a chart for your use in determining the number of franchises that may be available within any geographic area under consideration by you. We will review and approve your proposed territory in a timely manner.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Coffee News Franchise Disclosure Document, the exclusive territory granted to each franchisee is determined using data from the 2010 census. This data, available at www.census.gov, is used to assess the resident population within a specific area. Generally, Coffee News aims for each franchise territory to encompass a population between 25,000 and 50,000 residents. The franchisor maintains flexibility regarding the number of franchise territories available in any given geographic region.

Before a franchise agreement is signed and initial franchise fees are paid, Coffee News and the prospective franchisee will agree on the boundaries of the exclusive distribution territory. This territory is designed to ideally have a population of 25,000 to 50,000 residents and 25 to 40 active restaurants. Coffee News will research the proposed territory to ensure it does not overlap with any existing franchises. Approval is typically granted if the area does not conflict with another operating publisher.

Coffee News also researches population and commerce figures to determine the number of people and restaurants within the proposed territory. These guidelines are based on discussions with current franchisees in the U.S. and Canada, as well as information from Coffee News's five company-owned franchises. Upon signing the franchise agreement, the franchisee gains exclusive rights to distribute Coffee News editions within the agreed-upon territory. It is important to note that while distribution is limited to the assigned territory, franchisees are permitted to solicit and accept advertisements from sources both inside and outside their territory.
