What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Closet Storage Concepts' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are explicitly prohibited from misrepresenting the employment relationship within their franchise. Specifically, a Closet Storage Concepts franchisee cannot represent or imply to prospective employees or current employees that they are employed by the Franchisor, Closets Unlimited of New Jersey, Inc., rather than the franchisee themselves.

This stipulation is important because it clarifies that the franchisee is the sole employer and is responsible for all employment-related decisions. This includes hiring, firing, disciplining, supervising, setting employment terms, determining compensation, and implementing training programs. The franchisee must adhere to the training standards and procedures specified by Closet Storage Concepts to ensure business operations comply with the franchisor's requirements.

This type of clause is common in franchising to maintain a clear distinction between the franchisor's and franchisee's responsibilities, especially concerning legal and financial liabilities associated with employment. By preventing franchisees from implying that employees work for Closet Storage Concepts, the franchisor protects itself from potential legal claims related to employment practices within individual franchise locations. Prospective franchisees should understand that they will bear the full responsibility for managing their employees and ensuring compliance with all applicable labor laws.
