If I make modifications or improvements to the Cinnaholic franchise system, who owns them?

According to Cinnaholic's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, any modifications or improvements that a franchisee makes to the Cinnaholic franchise system are considered "works made for hire" and will be owned exclusively by Cinnaholic. This means that if a franchisee develops a new recipe, process, or marketing strategy that improves the Cinnaholic system, Cinnaholic will automatically own the rights to that innovation.

This policy is fairly common in franchising, as franchisors want to maintain consistent brand standards and control over their systems. It allows Cinnaholic to incorporate successful franchisee innovations across the entire franchise network without having to negotiate individual agreements or pay royalties.

For a prospective Cinnaholic franchisee, this means that while you are encouraged to contribute to the system's improvement, you will not receive any direct compensation or ownership rights for your ideas. Cinnaholic does not have to compensate franchisees for modifications or improvements. The benefit is that Cinnaholic may implement the changes system-wide.
