Answer from 2025 FDD Document

  • D. If Cajun should elect to use a principal name other than "Church's", "Church's Chicken" or "Church's Texas Chicken" to identify the System, Cajun may select another name and notify Franchisee to change all or some items bearing the Proprietary Marks to the new name within a reasonable period of time as determined by Cajun without any liability to Franchisee, and Franchisee promptly shall adopt that name.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Churchs Chicken Franchise Disclosure Document, if Cajun elects to use a principal name other than "Church's", "Church's Chicken" or "Church's Texas Chicken" to identify the Churchs Chicken system, it may select another name and notify the franchisee to change all or some items bearing the Proprietary Marks to the new name. The franchisee is then obligated to promptly adopt that new name.

This means that Churchs Chicken franchisees must be prepared to rebrand their restaurants if the franchisor decides to change the system's name. This includes updating signage, marketing materials, and potentially other branded items to reflect the new name. The franchisee is obligated to make these changes within a reasonable timeframe determined by Cajun.

While the FDD states that Cajun can make these changes without liability to the franchisee, franchisees should consider the potential costs associated with rebranding, such as new signage, marketing materials, and potential disruptions to business during the transition. It is important for prospective franchisees to inquire about the frequency with which Churchs Chicken has changed its name or branding in the past and what support the franchisor provides to franchisees during a rebranding process.
