According to Chocolate Fish Coffee's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program can take place in Sacramento, CA, or at the franchisee's location. The training program includes both classroom and on-the-job training covering topics such as Chocolate Fish Coffee culture, operations basics, pricing, front and back of house operations, customer satisfaction, and barista training.

Training classes are scheduled based on the needs of new franchisees and may be conducted remotely, at a corporate location, or at the franchisee's location once it is sufficiently built out. The training is led by the franchisor or a delegate, such as a corporate-employed manager or senior employee. Some training aspects may be self-directed using video training and instructional materials provided by Chocolate Fish Coffee.

Prospective franchisees should note that they must attend training and may send additional personnel, up to a maximum number. Franchisees must complete the training to Chocolate Fish Coffee's satisfaction at least four weeks before opening their business and pass a test evaluating their understanding of the training content. Failure to pass the test or complete the initial training may result in termination of the franchise agreement without a refund of the initial franchise fee.
