What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Capriottis Sandwich Shop's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a "Non-Traditional Venue" is defined as a captive venue location. These locations include, but are not limited to, airports, hospitals or medical centers, limited-access highway food facilities, bus or train locations, entertainment and sports complexes, convention centers, military facilities, schools, colleges, and universities, office facilities, department and retail super-stores, mobile units, off-site sales accounts, convenience stores, supermarkets, shopping malls and home-improvement retailers. The definition also encompasses any location known as "virtual kitchens," "ghost kitchens," or "ghost operations," including locations that operate on a delivery and/or pick up only basis.
For a prospective franchisee, understanding this definition is crucial because it affects the New Shop Opening Plan and associated costs. Specifically, franchisees opening in non-traditional venues are required to spend at least $15,000 towards the New Shop Opening Plan, whereas those in traditional locations must spend at least $30,000. This difference reflects the potentially lower marketing needs and operational adjustments required for non-traditional venues.
The inclusion of virtual or ghost kitchens in the definition of Non-Traditional Venues reflects the evolving landscape of the restaurant industry, where delivery-focused models are becoming increasingly prevalent. This classification indicates that Capriottis Sandwich Shop recognizes and accommodates these alternative business models within its franchise system. Franchisees considering such locations should be aware that the New Shop Opening Plan will be prescribed on a case-by-case basis, tailored to the specific requirements of the location.
It is important for potential franchisees to carefully evaluate the specific characteristics of their chosen location and how it aligns with this definition, as it directly impacts their initial investment in the New Shop Opening Plan. Franchisees should also discuss with Capriottis Sandwich Shop how the marketing and operational support will be tailored for their specific non-traditional venue to ensure a successful launch.
