What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Buona's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are obligated to complete a full renovation of their franchised business within a timeframe required by Buona. This renovation, referred to as a "Franchised Business Renovation," includes modernizing the building design, parking lot, landscaping, equipment, point of sale system, signs, interior and exterior decor, fixtures, furnishings, trade dress, color scheme, presentation of trademarks and service marks, supplies, and other materials to meet Buona's current design criteria.
The renovation may require structural changes, remodeling, redecoration, and modifications to existing improvements as necessary to meet the updated design standards. The franchisee is responsible for the costs associated with this renovation. However, a franchisee is only required to conduct one Franchised Business Renovation during the term of their agreement, and they are not required to do so if there is less than one year remaining in the term.
This requirement ensures that all Buona locations maintain a consistent brand image and meet current standards, which can help to attract and retain customers. Franchisees should be prepared for this expense and factor it into their long-term financial planning. It is important to note that this renovation is in addition to the franchisee's ongoing obligation to maintain the premises and equipment in accordance with Buona's standards.
