What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Buona's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are strictly prohibited from altering or changing the quality or composition of any ingredients and materials used in the business. The FDD emphasizes that franchisees must maintain a sufficient supply of ingredients, products, materials, supplies, and paper goods that conform to Buona's standards and specifications. Deviation from these standards by using nonconforming items is not allowed without prior written consent from Buona, which Buona may withhold at its discretion.
This requirement ensures that all Buona locations maintain a consistent level of quality and uniformity in their products. Franchisees are also obligated to sell only products and menu items that have been expressly approved in writing by Buona and that meet the company's uniform standards of quality and quantity. These items must be prepared according to Buona's methods and techniques, including specific recipes, cooking techniques, and processes as outlined in the manuals.
Buona considers these recipes, cooking techniques, and processes integral to the overall system. Failure to adhere to these guidelines, including the proper handling and storage of ingredients and prepared menu items, is considered detrimental to the Buona system and brand. This level of control is typical in franchising to maintain brand consistency and protect the brand's reputation. Prospective franchisees should understand that they must strictly adhere to Buona's standards and specifications in all aspects of product preparation and service.
