What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Buona's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchise agreement defines "Social Media" as interactive computer-mediated technologies. These technologies facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression. This sharing occurs via virtual communities and networks. Examples of social media platforms include Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest, as well as blogs and other similar communication methods.

This definition is important for prospective Buona franchisees because it clarifies the scope of activities that fall under the umbrella of "Social Media" as it relates to their franchise agreement. Buona maintains control over social media postings related to the franchisee's business. Franchisees may participate in content creation and maintenance, but only in accordance with Buona's guidelines and standards, which Buona can alter or delete.

Buona's control over social media and digital marketing is a common practice among franchise systems, allowing the franchisor to maintain brand consistency and manage the overall marketing strategy. However, it also means that franchisees have limited autonomy in their online presence and marketing efforts, as they must adhere to the franchisor's directives. Franchisees should carefully review Buona's social media policies and guidelines to understand the extent of their participation and the restrictions imposed by the franchisor.
