What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Buona's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Buona began offering unit franchises and area development franchises in May 2021. The franchisor, Chicago's Original Italian Beef Franchising LLC, was organized in Illinois on March 4, 2021, and does business under the names "Buona" and "Buona Beef." This indicates that while the company itself is relatively new, the brand has a longer history through its affiliates.
Prospective franchisees should note that Buona's affiliate, Buona Beef LLC, and its predecessors have operated similar businesses since 1981, and The Buona Companies, L.L.C. has managed and operated similar businesses since 1999. As of December 31, 2024, these affiliates owned and operated 31 Buona businesses, including dual-brand locations with The Original Rainbow Cone. This extensive experience in operating similar businesses could be beneficial for franchisees, as the franchisor can draw upon this knowledge base for support and guidance.
It's also important to understand the role of Buona's other affiliates. Five Flavors Franchising LLC, for example, has been offering franchises for The Original Rainbow Cone since 2019. This affiliate may be involved if a franchisee is offered the opportunity to develop and operate a combined Buona and The Original Rainbow Cone restaurant, known as a "Dual Brand Business." This dual-brand concept could provide an additional revenue stream for franchisees, but it also requires signing a separate franchise agreement with Five Flavors Franchising LLC.
