What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Southern Steer's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, prior to opening your Southern Steer Business, the company will provide site and signage plan templates. Additionally, Southern Steer will review your layout and design plans and make suggestions for the layout and design of your business. However, these suggestions will not include requirements of any federal, state, or local law, code, or regulation, including those concerning the Americans with Disabilities Act, nor will their suggestions include the requirements of, or be used for, construction drawings or other documentation necessary to obtain permits or authorization to build your Southern Steer Business.
As a franchisee, you are responsible for constructing your Southern Steer Business in accordance with specifications and plans prepared by you based upon Southern Steer's standards and subject to their approval. You will also pay all costs and expenses for construction plans and specifications for your Southern Steer Business.
This means that while Southern Steer offers templates and suggestions, the franchisee bears the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the site and signage comply with all applicable laws and regulations. The franchisee is also responsible for the costs associated with creating the construction plans and specifications, even though Southern Steer must approve them. This is a fairly standard arrangement in franchising, where the franchisor provides guidance and brand standards, but the franchisee manages the actual construction and compliance.
