What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Southern Steer's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, as part of the support offered to franchisees before opening their business, Southern Steer will provide access to their current initial marketing material. This material may include flyers, promo cards, and menus. However, the franchisee is responsible for the cost of printing these marketing materials, and they must use Southern Steer's designated supplier for printing.
After the Southern Steer Business opens, Southern Steer will periodically provide general marketing recommendations and marketing materials, if any, at the franchisee's cost. The franchisee is also responsible for local advertising and promotion, with a requirement to spend 1% of gross revenue on these activities annually. All local advertising materials created by the franchisee must be approved by Southern Steer and conform to the standards specified in the Brand Manual.
Southern Steer maintains control over the brand's image and marketing efforts, requiring franchisees to adhere to specific guidelines and obtain approval for advertising materials. This ensures consistency across all Southern Steer locations and protects the brand's reputation. Franchisees need to factor in the costs associated with printing marketing materials and the ongoing local advertising requirements when budgeting for their Southern Steer Business. Additionally, franchisees must spend a minimum of $15,000 for grand opening advertising and sales promotions.
These marketing support and advertising requirements are typical in franchising, as they help maintain brand consistency and ensure that franchisees are actively promoting their businesses within their local markets. The initial marketing materials and ongoing recommendations from Southern Steer can be valuable resources for franchisees, but it's important to understand the associated costs and approval processes.
