What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Southern Steer Franchise Disclosure Document, a Multi-Unit Development Agreement is defined as an agreement between the franchisor and a franchisee (or an entity owned by the franchisee) that grants the franchisee the right to develop the Southern Steer business at the franchised location, according to the terms outlined in the Franchise Agreement.
In essence, this agreement allows a franchisee to open multiple Southern Steer locations under a pre-arranged schedule and set of conditions. This differs from a standard franchise agreement, which typically covers a single location. Multi-unit development is a common strategy for franchise expansion, enabling faster growth for the franchisor and potential economies of scale for the franchisee.
For a prospective Southern Steer franchisee, entering into a Multi-Unit Development Agreement can offer the opportunity to build a larger business with multiple revenue streams. However, it also comes with increased responsibilities and financial commitments. The franchisee will need to secure financing for multiple locations, manage multiple teams, and ensure consistent quality and brand standards across all units. It is important to carefully review the terms of the agreement, including the development schedule, performance requirements, and any penalties for failing to meet the agreed-upon milestones.
