What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Potbelly Sandwich Works' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program for the Managing Owner is approximately 6 weeks long. In addition to the 6 weeks, the Managing Owner must also attend a 4-day owner training course at a designated Potbelly Sandwich Works training shop. This training occurs after signing the Franchise Agreement but before the shop opens, focusing on the company's philosophy, system standards, and operational aspects, excluding labor relations and employment practices.
Potbelly Sandwich Works schedules the training 2 to 3 months before the shop's anticipated opening date, ensuring completion at least 6 weeks before opening. The training programs are held at a certified training location or a designated training Potbelly Sandwich Works shop. The Managing Owner is required to complete the full training program to Potbelly Sandwich Works' satisfaction and pass any applicable operations and proficiency tests.
If Potbelly Sandwich Works determines that the Managing Owner cannot complete the initial training satisfactorily, and a repeat training program also fails to meet their standards, Potbelly Sandwich Works reserves the right to terminate the Franchise Agreement. The Managing Owner may request additional or repeat training at the end of the initial program if they feel inadequately prepared, with the duration of any additional training jointly determined by Potbelly Sandwich Works and the franchisee. The franchisee is responsible for covering all travel and living expenses, wages, and workers' compensation insurance costs incurred by attendees during training, as well as any charges for additional or repeat training.
