What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Ledgers's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Franchisee Advisory Council (FAC) is intended to advise Ledgers on operational and advertising policy. The members of the FAC are selected by Ledgers. It is explicitly stated that the FAC serves only in an advisory capacity. Ledgers retains the power to form, change, or dissolve the advertising council at its discretion.
This means that while Ledgers franchisees may have a voice through the FAC, the franchisor ultimately makes the final decisions regarding operational and advertising policies. The FAC's role is to provide input and suggestions, but Ledgers is not obligated to follow their advice. This structure is fairly common in franchising, where the franchisor seeks franchisee input while maintaining control over brand standards and strategic direction.
Prospective franchisees should understand that membership in the FAC is not guaranteed and that Ledgers has the authority to change or dissolve the council. While the FAC offers a potential avenue for franchisees to influence the system, its advisory nature means that Ledgers retains ultimate authority. Franchisees who desire a strong voice in the brand's direction should inquire about the FAC's history, activities, and influence within the Ledgers organization.
