You maintain an economic interest in providing Services to Clients during the Term of your Franchised Business. What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Ledgers' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee's economic interest in Client Data ends upon the termination of the Franchise Agreement. During the term of the agreement, the franchisee maintains an economic interest in providing services to clients and may use client data as permitted by the agreement and the manual, as long as the use is consistent with applicable law. However, Ledgers retains all right, title, and interest in the Client Data during and after the term of the agreement.
Client Data is defined as any and all information about Clients that may be collected in connection with their use of your Services including, but not limited to, name, telephone number, address and email address.
This means that while a Ledgers franchisee can profit from client relationships during the franchise term, they lose that right once the agreement ends. Ledgers retains ownership of the client data itself, preventing franchisees from leveraging that data for their own benefit after the franchise relationship concludes. This is a fairly standard practice in franchising, as it protects the brand's customer base and prevents unfair competition from former franchisees.
