What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Jersey Mikes's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisor must make initial training available to specific personnel. This includes the franchisee's Controlling Principal or designated manager (Trainee 1), the assistant manager (Trainee 2), and the shift supervisor (Trainee 3). These individuals are required to attend and successfully complete the franchisor's initial training course before the restaurant opens for business. The training consists of three phases.

The training requirements vary slightly depending on whether the franchisee is opening their first Jersey Mikes restaurant or an additional one. For first-time franchisees, three individuals (Trainees 1, 2, and 3) must complete Phase 1, Trainee 1 must complete Phase 2, and two individuals (Trainees 1 and 2) must complete Phase 3. Additionally, Trainees 1 and 2 must participate in the grand opening of another Jersey Mike's Restaurant before opening their own.

For franchisees opening an additional restaurant, the training requirements are similar but offer some flexibility. Three individuals must complete Phase 1 (Trainees 1, 2, and 3), one individual must complete Phase 2 (either Trainee 1 or 2), and two individuals must complete Phase 3 (Trainees 1 and 2). The franchisor retains the right to modify the training program's terms, including reducing or increasing requirements based on the franchisee's experience level and other relevant factors. Participation in the training program is conditional upon the trainee's ability to read and write English competently. The initial training covers both classroom and hands-on in-store training, though the franchisor may conduct the training through a virtual platform.
