What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Jersey Mikes Franchise Disclosure Document, the 'Controlling Principal' is a key figure in the franchise operation. While the FDD does not explicitly define 'Controlling Principal,' it outlines several responsibilities and requirements related to this role. The Controlling Principal, or a designated manager, is required to complete Jersey Mike's initial training program, along with the assistant manager and shift supervisor. This training is crucial for understanding and maintaining Jersey Mike's standards.

In the event of a franchise transfer, the transferee's Controlling Principal, or designated manager, must also satisfactorily complete Jersey Mike's training program. Furthermore, the transferee and their Principals must apply for acceptance as a Jersey Mike's franchisee, providing necessary information and references to demonstrate their skills, qualifications, and economic resources. They must also show that they possess the ethics, moral values, and economic resources necessary to operate the restaurant and fulfill obligations to Jersey Mike's.

These requirements underscore the importance Jersey Mikes places on having qualified and well-trained individuals in leadership positions. The Controlling Principal appears to be the individual ultimately responsible for ensuring the franchise adheres to Jersey Mike's standards and meets its obligations. Prospective franchisees should clarify with Jersey Mike's the specific definition and expectations for the Controlling Principal role to fully understand the commitment involved.
