What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Jack In The Box's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the Operator can act as the Operator for more than one Jack In The Box restaurant. The Operator is a key role, approved by Jack In The Box, and must have at least a 25% ownership interest in the franchise. Alternatively, a Designated Market Operator (DMO) may be appointed under certain conditions, without needing an ownership stake.
The FDD also specifies that each Jack In The Box restaurant must have a Certified Restaurant Manager who provides full-time, on-premises supervision and can typically manage only one restaurant, unless the company provides written approval otherwise. This highlights a distinction between the Operator, who can oversee multiple locations, and the Certified Restaurant Manager, who generally focuses on a single location.
For franchisees with fifteen or more Jack In The Box restaurants, the FDD states that they must employ at least one employee dedicated to overseeing the operations of the restaurants. These employees with managerial duties above the restaurant level must also complete the Certified Restaurant Manager training program. This requirement ensures that larger franchisees have adequate support and oversight for their multiple locations, maintaining Jack In The Box's standards across all units.
