Can an Itan Managing Owner provide initial training to new general managers they hire?

Itan Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

From time to time, we may require that your Managing Owner and general managers attend system-wide refresher or supplemental training courses. Any new Managing Owner you appoint or general manager you hire must successfully complete initial training before assuming responsibility for the management of your Salon. After successfully completing initial training, your Managing Owner may provide initial training for new general managers you hire. However we may, for good cause, revoke the Managing Owner's right to train general managers. If we inspect your Salon and determine you are not operating in compliance with the Franchise Agreement and the Manual, we may require that your Managing Owner and general managers attend remedial training relevant to the operational deficiencies we observed. You may also request that we provide additional training. We are not required to provide additional training you request.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Itan's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a Managing Owner can provide initial training to new general managers they hire, but with certain stipulations. The FDD states that any new Managing Owner appointed or general manager hired must first successfully complete initial training before taking on management responsibilities at the salon. After the Managing Owner completes their initial training, they are then permitted to train new general managers. However, Itan retains the right to revoke a Managing Owner's training privileges for a good cause.

Itan may require the Managing Owner and general managers to attend refresher or supplemental training courses periodically. If an Itan inspection reveals operational deficiencies at a salon, Itan may mandate remedial training for the Managing Owner and general managers to address those specific issues. Franchisees can also request additional training, but Itan is not obligated to fulfill these requests.

This policy ensures that all general managers receive a baseline level of training, while also allowing experienced Managing Owners to take on some of the training responsibilities. However, franchisees should be aware that Itan can revoke the Managing Owner's right to train general managers, potentially requiring all new general managers to undergo training directly from Itan, which may incur additional costs, as the initial training is free before opening, but after the salon opens, there is a charge of $1,500 for each person sent to initial training.
