Can Itan limit the remodeling required for conversion, and if so, how?

Itan Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

You must, at your sole expense, re-image, remodel, renovate, refurbish, and modernize the Premises to comply with all standards and specifications in the Manual, including, without limitation, our required design and layout, construction materials, furniture, fixtures and equipment, interior and exterior signage and trade dress.

We may, at our discretion, limit the required remodeling to painting and lightweight items to limit the required conversion costs.

You must hire a licensed and bonded architect to prepare your construction plans to convert your Premises to an iTAN Salon.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Itan's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, when converting an existing business to an Itan salon, Itan has the discretion to limit the required remodeling. Instead of requiring a full remodel to comply with all standards and specifications in Itan's manual, Itan may choose to limit the remodeling to painting and lightweight items.

This flexibility can significantly reduce the conversion costs for franchisees. By limiting the remodeling to painting and lightweight items, Itan aims to make the conversion process more financially accessible. This approach allows franchisees to update the look and feel of their existing business to align with the Itan brand without incurring the expenses associated with a complete overhaul.

However, even with these potential limitations, franchisees are still responsible for ensuring their premises meet Itan's standards. Franchisees must engage a licensed and bonded architect to prepare construction plans that incorporate minimum modifications, meet all standards in the manual, and comply with all applicable laws. These plans are subject to Itan's approval to verify consistency with system standards. Therefore, while Itan may limit the scope of remodeling, franchisees must still meet certain requirements to ensure brand consistency and regulatory compliance.
