Has iTAN Franchising, Inc. ever directly owned and operated an Itan Salon?

Itan Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

Our Chief Executive Officer opened the first Salon in San Diego, California in 2001. Our company has offered franchises for Salons since 2008. We also offered area representative franchises from August 2012 to December 2014, although we never sold any area representative franchises. In addition to owning and operating at least 1 Salon, area representatives would assist us in selling franchises, and training and supporting franchisees, within a designated development territory. We no longer offer area representative franchises. We have never offered franchises in any other line of business. We have never directly owned and operated a Salon.

Predecessors, Parents and Affiliates

We do not have any predecessors or parent companies.

We do not have any affiliates that offer (or have ever offered) franchises in this or any other line of business. However, our affiliate Kharsa Holdings, Inc. ("Kharsa") offered licenses to operate Salons from June 2004 until October 2007. During that time, Kharsa entered into a total of 13 licensing arrangements. These licenses may have qualified as franchises under California law. All licensees subsequently signed franchise agreements with us. Kharsa shares our principal business address. Kharsa operated all of our company-owned Salons from April 2001 until December 2023 when they were sold to a franchisee.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Itan's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, iTAN Franchising, Inc. has never directly owned and operated an Itan salon. However, the FDD states that Itan's Chief Executive Officer opened the first salon in San Diego, California in 2001.

While iTAN Franchising, Inc. has not directly owned salons, its affiliate, Kharsa Holdings, Inc., operated company-owned salons from April 2001 until December 2023. These salons were subsequently sold to a franchisee. Kharsa Holdings, Inc. also offered licenses to operate Itan salons from June 2004 to October 2007, entering into 13 licensing arrangements during that time. These licenses may have qualified as franchises under California law, and all licensees later signed franchise agreements with iTAN Franchising, Inc.

This distinction is important for prospective franchisees to understand. While Itan itself has not directly managed salons, its affiliate has extensive experience in operating company-owned locations. This experience could provide valuable insights and support to franchisees, even though the franchisor itself has focused on franchising rather than direct operation.
