Construction.** The Manual includes our standards and specifications for the design, layout, equipping and trade dress for a Salon.

You must hire a licensed and bonded architect to prepare initial design plans for the construction of your Salon and leasehold improvements.

We must approve the initial design plans to ensure they are consistent with our system standards.

Once approved, your architect must prepare detailed construction plans that: (a) are consistent with the approved design plans; (b) satisfy all required standards and specifications in the Manual; and (c) comply with all Laws (including the Americans with Disabilities Act), building codes, permits and lease requirements and restrictions applicable to the premises.

You must submit the final construction plans to us for approval.

The limited purpose of our review is to verify the construction plans are consistent with our system standards.

Once approved, you must, at your sole expense, construct and equip the premises according to the approved construction plans and the specifications in the Manual.

You must also purchase (or lease) and install all equipment, fixtures, signs and other items we require.

At all times during the construction process, you must maintain the minimum general liability and property damage insurance required by the Manual.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Itan's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the standards and specifications for the design, layout, and equipping of a Salon can be found in the Manual. Specifically, Section 7.3, titled "Construction," states that the Manual includes these standards and specifications, as well as trade dress requirements.

It is important to note that the franchisee must hire a licensed and bonded architect to prepare initial design plans for the construction of the Salon. These plans must be consistent with Itan's system standards, and Itan must approve them. Once the initial design plans are approved, the architect must prepare detailed construction plans that adhere to the approved design plans, satisfy all required standards and specifications in the Manual, and comply with all applicable laws, building codes, permits, and lease requirements.

The franchisee is responsible for constructing and equipping the premises according to the approved construction plans and the specifications outlined in the Manual. This includes purchasing or leasing and installing all required equipment, fixtures, signs, and other items specified by Itan. Throughout the construction process, the franchisee must maintain the minimum general liability and property damage insurance as required by the Manual.

Therefore, the Manual serves as the primary resource for Itan franchisees regarding the design, layout, and equipping standards for their salons. Franchisees should consult the Manual and work closely with their architect and Itan to ensure compliance with all requirements during the construction and build-out process.
