  • 6.7 Grooming School.

If you are not already a dog groomer, you must hire a lead groomer (who must be approved by us in writing) and successfully complete our designated online grooming training program prior to Initial Training.

The cost of the online training program, including but not limited to registration fees, materials, equipment, travel and living expenses, shall be your sole responsibility.

These costs are non-refundable regardless of completion or success in the program.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Hydrodog's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if a franchisee is not already a dog groomer, they must hire a lead groomer, and Hydrodog must provide written approval of that lead groomer. The franchisee must also ensure the lead groomer successfully completes Hydrodog's designated online grooming training program before the franchisee begins their initial training.

This requirement ensures that all Hydrodog locations maintain a consistent standard of grooming quality, even if the franchisee lacks prior grooming experience. It protects Hydrodog's brand reputation and ensures customers receive a certain level of service regardless of the location they visit.

The franchisee is solely responsible for the costs associated with the online training program, including registration fees, materials, equipment, travel, and living expenses. These costs are non-refundable, regardless of whether the lead groomer completes the program or succeeds in it. This represents a potentially significant upfront investment for new franchisees, especially if they do not have prior grooming experience.

For prospective franchisees without grooming experience, it is crucial to factor in the time and expense of hiring and training a lead groomer. They should inquire about the specific requirements and costs of the online training program, as well as the criteria Hydrodog uses to approve lead groomers. Understanding these factors will help franchisees accurately estimate their initial investment and operational timelines.
