What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Hawaiian Bros Island Grill's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, they provide a pre-opening team to assist franchisees with their first four new Restaurant openings (NROs) developed under the development agreement. This assistance lasts for two weeks, specifically one week before and one week after the restaurant opening. In certain cases, Hawaiian Bros Island Grill may offer an additional week of training support if both parties agree it's necessary.
This support includes consulting on building blueprints to determine equipment needs, providing ordering assistance with vendor partners, offering technology installation consultation and oversight, and providing on-site support during training and on opening day. However, the franchisee is responsible for reimbursing Hawaiian Bros Island Grill for the costs incurred by the opening team, including travel, lodging, car rental, and a per diem allowance for meals and incidentals. For the third and fourth NROs, the franchisee must also reimburse Hawaiian Bros Island Grill for the wages of the opening team members.
The level of support and the associated costs are detailed in a table within the FDD. For example, for the first two NROs, Hawaiian Bros Island Grill provides up to 12 hourly trainers and a Senior Manager of Training, with the franchisee responsible for reimbursements between $55,000 and $65,000, excluding wages. By the fourth NRO, the franchisee is expected to supply 12 hourly Hawaiian Bros certified trainers and a certified Training Manager, with Hawaiian Bros Island Grill covering the certification team's expenses. This structured support system aims to ensure a smooth opening process for new Hawaiian Bros Island Grill locations, gradually transitioning more responsibility to the franchisee as they gain experience.
It's important to note that this assistance is subject to the training team's availability and may be limited during weeks with national holidays. Delays in opening can also result in additional costs for the franchisee, as they will be required to reimburse Hawaiian Bros Island Grill for expenses incurred during the delay. Franchisees should carefully review the table outlining the specific requirements and costs associated with NRO assistance to fully understand their obligations and budget accordingly.
