Answer from 2025 FDD Document

We do not require you to purchase any goods or services from Golden Corral or from suppliers designated by Golden Corral, except for: (1) one or more independent foodservice distributors we designate as the primary distributor of food and supplies to Golden Corral restaurants; (2) one or more fountain beverage and/or packaged beverage suppliers that we

designate (we currently designate Coke and Dr. Pepper products); (3) processing of Golden Corral Gift Card transactions, for which you must use RBS WorldPay (and/or such other processor as Golden Corral may designate in the future), (4) a point-of-sale software system that we designate, which currently is Qu, Inc. or such other system provider that we select, (5) a point-of-sale hardware equipment supplier, which currently is Qu, Inc. and/or such other supplier that we select, (6) a back of house (BOH) management software solution that we designate, which currently is Decision Logic and/or such other solution that we select, and (7) a cybersecure network/internet infrastructure solution that we designate, which currently is AT&T and/or such other solution that we select. In general, you must purchase goods and services as well as fixtures, furnishings, signs, supplies, and equipment (collectively, "Items") from suppliers who have been approved by Golden Corral and/or from among items which conform to Golden Corral's specifications. We do not provide material benefits to any franchisee based on a franchisee's use of approved suppliers. Except as described below, neither we nor our affiliates receive any payments or other benefits from suppliers we approve.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Golden Corral's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to use Decision Logic, or another solution selected by Golden Corral, as the back of house (BOH) management software. This requirement is part of a broader set of rules mandating that franchisees purchase certain goods, services, and equipment from designated or approved suppliers.

This means that as a Golden Corral franchisee, you do not have the freedom to choose your own BOH management software. Instead, you must use Decision Logic or whatever alternative Golden Corral selects. This is a common practice in franchising, where franchisors seek to maintain uniformity and quality control across all locations. By mandating specific software, Golden Corral aims to ensure that all restaurants use compatible systems for managing back-of-house operations.

The FDD also states that Golden Corral does not receive material benefits from franchisees using approved suppliers. However, it is important to note that Golden Corral's parent company, GCC, may be an approved supplier for computer hardware and software services, potentially creating a financial relationship between the franchisor and the supplier of the mandated BOH software. Franchisees should inquire about any potential revenue streams or benefits that Golden Corral or its affiliates receive from Decision Logic or its alternatives to fully understand the financial implications of this requirement.

While franchisees are generally required to purchase goods and services from approved suppliers, they can request approval for alternative suppliers or products. However, this process can take several months and may involve inspection fees and testing costs. Therefore, it is crucial for prospective franchisees to carefully consider the implications of these restrictions and to discuss any concerns with Golden Corral before signing the franchise agreement.
